Won't eject CD

#1 Post by dcouzin » Sun Apr 22, 2007 6:41 pm

Sometimes my T42 won't eject a CD. The button doesn't work and neither does "eject" in Windows Explorer. I have to restart the computer to do it. This has been going on for two years, through several XP reinstalls. Is this a known syndrome?
Sorry I haven't kept note of which application or applications used the CD last. Are there known culprits?

DLA or one of it's compatriots (ie. Nero INCD) are likely the cause. Right click on the CD drive in My Computer, go to the DLA tab and uncheck the box. Alternatively you can uninstall DLA if you like.

DLA stands for Drive Letter Access. It is packet writing software so that a CD/R or CD/RW can be written to like a floppy disk. IMO, it hasn't been all that reliable, and the disks written with packet writing software cannot always be seen on other drives.

You can always eject manually. There's a little hole in the face of the drive that is exactly the right size for a straightened paper clip. Stick the clip in and a miracle occurs.

Thank you GomJabbar. I wondered what IBM DLA was doing for me and why Lenovo foisted off Sonic DLA to do it better. I've just uninstalled it. I don't notice any difference in the operation of RecordNow!, and look forward to the eject button always working.

Thank you richk. This also lets me remove or insert a CD when the machine is off. Great little hole.
