BSOD because of the graphic card of a T43P

#1 Post by OMsaaf » Sun Apr 22, 2007 7:53 pm

Hello guys
I know a lot of knowledgeable guys browse this forum, so I thought I might ask for some help
I have had my laptop for about 8 months and it has worked flawlessely. I am very happy with it.

Nevertheless, without changing configuration or software, I have started having frequent BSOD's all related to the ATI driver. I run PC Doctor on my graphic card, and it failed different tests
the Video Memory Test ; The Wireframe Line Test ; and the Fixed Transformation and Lighting Test

I called Lenovo, they asked me (silly them) to reinstall my computer.
I could also send them my computer so that they have a look at it. If I want them to come to my office they would charge me 180$ if by chance it is software glitch.

That's so not funny. I have to install different CAD CAM systems which will take me at least 3 days work, I have a deadline to deliver a program related to PowerShape for the end of the week.

My question to you Thinkpad Guru's is : Is there a way to be positively sure that my hardware is at fault through certain softwares ?

Thanks a bunch

Omar

Try booting up from a PC Doctor for DOS CD and run the diagnostics to rule out any Windows created problems. Check the PC Doctor 1ety44ww.txt file for any error messages that might be related to the video card. PC Doctor did report some false error messages with the ATI graphics adapters in the past.

You can try turning off Hardware Acceleration in Display Properties to get you over the hump for the short term. For the ATI Radeon, it should be on the Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot tab.

I had BSOD problem with my ATI video card (T41) a while back and fixed it by simply reinstalling the ATI driver...somehow it became corrupted as a result of my closing the laptop lid one day (set for hibernate upon lid closure).

Since then I've set my laptop to "Standby" for lid closure and everything has worked well...
