T30 LCD and Video Issues.

#1 Post by Bucksnort101 » Mon Apr 23, 2007 11:30 am

I have a T30 Thinkpad that has some interesting issues which I suspect are caused by the Inverter Board, but wanted some other input.

Never get video on the LCD, even with a second LCD installed. Most times powers up momentarily and when I see the backlight try to come on the whole system will immediatley power down. Cannot get power back unless I disconnect the Inverter and reseat the AC connection and this does not always work.

Other times I can get video to an external Monitor, but it appears to be missing any Red hues. If I try to do an Fn + F7 to switch to the LCD the system will again loose all video and power and then will not staypowered up unless I reseat the Inverter and AC again.
Sometimes pressing the little switch on the back side of the Inverter causes things to come back up on the external monitor.

I had a similar problem on another t30. Try disconnecting the screen. If it will boot okay on an external monitor then, I would try replacing the inverter. If it doesn't, it points to a motherboard issue (probably a loose GPU, like mine was.)
