UPDATES: New Atheros Drivers for Vista Released 7.2.0.204

#1 Post by JHaislet » Mon Apr 23, 2007 6:12 pm

I just swapped out an Intel 2915 wireless card for the IBM A/B/G II (Atheros based) card.
By default, Windows Vista (Business) installed drivers from August 2006.
The drivers on IBM's site are from January 2007.
I just used the "Update Driver" feature in Vista and told it to check the internet and it pulled down version 7.2.0.204 dated April 15, 2007.

Everything seems to be working well.

I ordered the actual Lenovo part # for this card (73P4301) "Thinkpad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter II" so I wouldn't have to deal with the bios check & 1802 errors (which there are none when booting).

Interestingly, the identification string on the card in device manager simply states "11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter II" (no IBM or Lenovo text)

I've had IBM NIC's in the past and they've all had the brand name right there in device manager. In addition, Windows Vista simply recognized the card as an "Atheros Wireless Connection"

That driver has had about 8 updates since Vista was released... which is either good or bad, whichever way you look at it.

Mind you, that is much better than the manufacturers who still don't have Vista drivers...
