Looking into a dock and external display for tp

#1 Post by Spimoles » Tue Apr 24, 2007 7:58 pm

I'm heading off to college in the fall and want to pick up an extra monitor for either a dual external display or just something to use when my tp is hooked up to the Mini Dock

As of now I am interested in theHanns·G HW-191DPB 19in Widescreen

and the Lenovo Mini Dock

Does anyone here have any insight to either of these products or a better/similar one?[/url]

Check that the minidock matches your ThinkPad type and model!
If your TP does not have DVI, the dock can't provide it either, even if there is a DVI-port in it!

This is not true.
I am not aware of any Thinkpad that comes with a DVI port, though a majority of docking stations have one.

For instance, I used to plug my T43 to its mini Dock and plug my screen on the DVI port of the station, and it just worked.

What you probably meant is
If your TP does not have DVI capabilities (which are linked to the graphic card or chipset that is used in it), the dock can't provide it either, even if there is a DVI-port in it!
T43 2668-92G (upgraded to 1GB RAM) (don't have it anymore)
X60 1709-H6U (upgraded to 2GB RAM)
T60 1951-A47

the minidock fits and I have an A31p which I'm very sure is DVI capable. The minidock has usb2.0 but my A31p only has usb1.1 (file transfer is a pain) When I dock the tp will it then be capable of running usb devices at usb2.0 speeds?

I have used the T43P, T30 and T20 in docks with DVI. I know that the T30 and T43P will drive the DVI. But there seams to be a limit on the resolution that can be had through the DVI of 1280 X 1024.

However, with the VGA connected to a flat panel, my T43p will drive a 1600 X 1200. Currently I am on a 1680 X 1040 flat panel on my T43p. It has the ATI Mobility Radeon X300 video chip.

No... USB 1.1 is the only thing the computer is capable of regardless of the dock. Only magic (or more work than a new computer and dock costs) can convert the buss speed between the computer and the dock
A30 2652-46U (used to be a 2654-BC2 Originally a 2652-35U)
15 inch XVGA 768MB, DVD 1-Dual layer R/W DVD 2 RO, Dock Ultrabay 2k Battery Modem daughter card, 802.11A/B/G...
And anything else I can stuff in.

Any one else here old enough to have used an IBM 029 Keypunch? :}
