International Warranty (USA / EU)
I can not find anything about warranty covergae in the EU, specifically the UK.
I'm looking to purchase a USA T60p (8743CTO) and was thinking about purchasing the 3 year onsite warranty but when I look at what countries are listed it seems that everywhere EXCEPT the EU is covered.
What is going on here ?
I can buy a ThinkPad in the USA, travel to Peru, have onsite coverage but if I travel to England I'm stuck ???
Any ideas please ?

Please do not blame the EU. It is a wonderful institution!
Secondly, you have got to look at the model number and/or the serial number. The warranty is global if the serial number starts with L3. Models that I know of, which has global warranty are the following (all from the T-series):
1951, 1952, 2007, 2008, 8741, 8742, 6369.
There might be others. They are typically more expensive than other Thinkpads, probably due to the international warranty. I have only found these models pre-build. I don't know if I am allowed to mention dealers, but Euclid Computers are cheap and good. You might also be able to find someone on these forums or on notebookreview.com, who are willing to sell one of these models.
Within EU ok1.de is a good place to get Thinkpads. You have be a student, or get somebody who is a student, to order for you.
Cheers,
Rasmus

@ Oaklodge and RasmusP:
Thanks for opening this tread. I am, too, very interested in this topic, since ThinkPad's are so much more expensive here in the EU (and in particular in Denmark?) compared to in the USA. So... why don't we just do our business in the USA, provided the warranty is OK and cover worldwide? Well, I think that IBM/Lenovo (deliberately!) wants to prevent us from drawing full advantage of this "potential possibility" simply because the various Lenovo-businesses throughout e.g. the EU would otherwise not be able to charge the high prices which fact is, that they do.
So, what I wanted to say is this: Check what Lenovo responded to me - very recently - on this matter; see http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=41351 (my post of April 23, 2007). To be honest, I am still surprised by Lenovo's answer, and I have been thinking if it is really true, or if someone (at Lenovo) perhaps just did not quite have the correct information?
In conclusion, please share all information you know of and/or can dig up - but please try to get the information correctly confirmed by IBM/Lenovo... so that we don't (all!) end up just "believing"!
Thanks in advance for clarifying this matter!
Kind regards,
Johan

Johan,
As I understand the question applies to the User Configured Thinkpads ... in other words the standard configurations are in fact covered by the warranty. Lenovo website confirms this, Enter a model number of 8742 or 8744 and you will get a world wide list of centers, if you enter a model number of 8743 then the list is much smaller - 8743 is a user configured machine.

I called IBM Denmark this Friday. I told the Lenovo/IBM guy that I had bought a Thinkpad abroad, and I wanted to check whether or not the warranty was eligible in Denmark. He said that if the s/n started with L3 IBM will honor the warranty world wide.
I believe that some if not all of the models bought at ok1.de are IWS eligible. However, ok1.de sells to students and teachers only. They do, replace keyboard and install English windows.

@ RasmusP:
I just tried to check the international warranty coverage on my T60 (which has a serial-number starting with "L3", yes!), and guess what I learned... check this thread (see my post of May 5)!
Something is very strange - I am not certain about the thuth of the "L3", mentioned above!

In your signature you state that your type number is 2373. If one goes to the Lenovo warranty page and checks IWS for Type 2373, one will see that it is in fact covered world wide -- including Denmark!Johan wrote:@ RasmusP:

Johan, are you aware of this
Edit: Please check the type number for your T60 too. It is not listed in your signature. . .
I only know what I was told by IBM Denmark. It may or may not be correct about the L3. It it true for my model and apparently for Johan's too. I did however, ordered a replacement part today for my American T60p from IBM Denmark.
