One of the clips (the right one) on my old t21 that is out of warrenty has broken. I'm wondering how much it would cost to buy a replacement, where i would do that, and how hard it would be to replace myself?
thanks.

If you mean the sliding latch that keeps the lid locked down to the base, then here's the scoop:
- IBM part (FRU) number is 91P9152.
- The Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM) for the T2x is here. It's useful to see where/how most of the parts fit in the laptop. The lid latch is NOT shown or referenced as far as I can tell.
- Remove the three screws at the bottom of the LCD bezel and gently pry it off from the lid. Start by sliding your fingernails between the bezel and the lid at the sides and work your way up toward the latches. Do the same at the "top". I've found that the bezel detaches best by pulling it in towards the center of the screen. The bottom is tough as it's attached by double-sided tape. A constant, firm pull straight off from the panel is needed. I again slide my fingernails between the panel and the bezel and pull the bezel away from the LCD.
- Take a close look at how the latch/spring assembly fits into the groove and retaining clip and then grab whatever is left of the latch, bend it in towards the center of the LCD and lift the latch out. You have to bend it far enough away from the lid in order for the half-circle "button" to clear the opening. Be careful that you do not put too much pressure on the clip that keeps the latch in place
- Install the new latch (with spring!) in reverse order; position the pin and spring end in place, keeping the latch at a slight angle, push the other end of the latch into the retaining clip and then simply push down/in. That should snap the latch assembly back in place.
You can sometimes find the latches on eBay (search for 91P9152 or T23 lcd latch). Single pieces can be had (i.e., just the right or left side; they are not interchangable), but generally you can get a better deal if you find an eBay seller like this. A kit of five pairs, with springs for $13 vs. a single piece price of around $6-$10. That said, I can offer you a right side latch with new spring for $3 shipped. PM me if you are interested.

You can get one e.g. here on eBay: http://tinyurl.com/2qnj9t $9.63 incl. shipping to USA
You only need to take off the bezel of the lid, a little bit fiddly but not too difficult. Read the Hardware Maintenance Manual.
Look for "latch IBM T21"
PS: I just noticed that Ray beat me to it.
