Anyone running Vista on older ThinkPads? (T23)

#1 Post by dsigma6 » Wed Apr 25, 2007 2:50 pm

Just checking how many other people are putting Vista on older machines. I have my T23 running well, although TPFanControl MUST be on at all times. Without it, the machines idles in the mid 60's.

1.13GHz
512MB
60GB 5400RPM Seagate

I tried streaming video with the standard Vista drivers, and things were OK-ish. I then installed the XP Savage driver, and the video was horrible. Anyone else experimented with other drivers?

Overall I'm quite satisfied, and I can deal without Aero on this one.

edit: I figured out, through trial and error, that a driver from the Savage website was the best fit. I tried the driver from the Chinese website linked in other posts (designed for XP), but Vista wouldn't let me run it.

I am quiet happy with my X31's running Vista Business. I do have one problem although small, one of my X31's will not dock cold and boot. I have to start the boot process before docking it to the Dock II station.

I was running Vista on my Thinkpad A20m but the issue for is that I cant play any videos on WMP11 because I dont have insuffecient ram to play them? I never had the issue with that on XP Pro

I just had to install XP on my cloned Vista drive so my brother could borrow it to watch DVD's. Vista, no matter what driver I used, just couldn't play anything.

Good thing I don't watch movies on there, or else I'd be sticking with XP.

I'm using Vista. I don't watch DVD's on the laptop anyway, so it didn't matter to me. My bro just happened to need it for movies and I didn't want to say "sorry you can't borrow it, the latest and greatest OS from M$ can't play DVD's!"
