Product: ThinkPad T41 2373-8SU
Original description: P M 1.6GHz, 512MB RAM, 40GB
5400rpm HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024X768) TFT LCD, 32MB ATI
Radeon 7500, 24x-8x DVD, Wireless upgradeable(MPCI),
Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip,
6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro, AC Adapter
All above is correct plus IBM Atheros A/B/G internal wifi card has been added.
The machine works perfectly, looks great and has original system restore partition in tact. Original restore has been applied and all WinXP plus IBM patches are up to date.
This is where it gets interesting. I bought the machine a while back and used it without any issues. When preparing to sell, I restored the system to factory config. After doing all the updates I noticed that the APS (hard drive protection system) was not included in the updates. I tried a manual install but it failed. It seems that this T41 has a T40 system board installed. Although the CPU, memory (PC2700, 512mb, one stick), video type and memory are correct, the part number on the actual system board located under the memory slot is for a T40 system board. Also, the wired Ethernet is 10/100 and it should be 10/100/1000. So, at some point, whether new or after the fact, the wrong system board was installed. But it does work fine.
The warranty shows good until 10-4-2007, but I have not called it in because it works fine plus I do not have the time. USB ports work at high speed and there are no video issues at all.
Other minor issues, the power supply connector on the back of the machine is chipped (no charging issues at all) and there is one stuck pixel (blue, see cursor in attached picture), it's off to the right and you'd be hard pressed to notice it while using the machine.
Other than that, it looks and runs perfectly - quite fast.
Please note, I am not a warranty expert and I have not called IBM about this unit. If someone believes there is a chance that this warranty is not valid due to the installed system board, please comment. The sale of this is "as is", but I will guarantee it will not be DOA and exactly as described. I just can't guarantee the warranty part because I haven't used it.

For this price, condition and specs it looks a dream machine. Very neat. Good Luck!
