T40p LCD flickers/streaks, but only when connected to power

#1 Post by mahesh » Wed Apr 25, 2007 7:18 pm

I have a T40p and the LCD flickers/streaks occasionally, but only when it is connected to AC power. It never seems to happen when one is working off battery. Any suggestions on what the problem might be? Thanks.

The common complaint is lines, etc when moving the running machine around. That indicates bad solder connections at the graphics chip. What happens if you try to wiggle the power plug while it is running?

Hmmm, it sounds like VPU (FireGL 9000, right?).

Yes - the VPU is an ATI FireGL 9000. Any ideas on whether this can be fixed.

If it is the GPU, it usually means MB replacement. The reason I asked about wiggling the power jack is a loose jack can sometimes cause interference and can be replaced.
