System Update 3.0 recommended?

#1 Post by Ogg » Thu Apr 26, 2007 2:10 pm

I have a T40p. I was told that the replacement hdd (60gig) is fresh from IBM. Evidence of that is that a whole wack of XPpro updates had to be done inorder to be up to date. Now the concern is to get the necessary drivers that may also be needed specific to my model (2372-AU1 mobo), but 2373-G3U sticker on back of unit. Question.. is it recommended to simply run the "System Update 3.0" file available at the Lenovo site? That is, " systemupdate3-2007-2-12.exe 9,783,616bytes". Further to this is that I seem to be unable to get a simple wireless network up and running. So.. I am hoping that this generic update will help me fix that? Any comments and help would be appreciated.

systemupdate3-2007-2-12.exe complains that the existing IBM Update Connector or System Update has to me removed. The program fails to uninstall the old version automatically. But I can't figure out how to do that myself. They are not listed in Add/Remove Programs. Help would be appreciated.

I remember seeing Update Connector in Add or Remove Programs before. I have since uninstalled it, so I do not remember it's exact name there. Look for Update Connector or IBM Update Connector in Add or Remove Programs. Also if Update Connector is installed, there should be a program listing in Start > All Programs > Access IBM > .

If you still cannot find it, try running the installation file for Update Connector. C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\UPDATER\setup.exe.

Thanks for your reply. The only thing in add/remove Programs that resembles what you're saying is "Access IBM Tools". Is that the program I need to remove?

"Access IBM Tools" should not be it. Try installing System Update again. If you still get the same error, reinstall Update Connector, reboot, then unistall Update Connector from Add or Remove Programs. You may need to reboot again.

You also need .NET 2.0 to use System Update. You can get it from here: Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86). Be sure to read this page carefully to make sure you satisfy the other requirements to install .NET 2.0.

Problem solved (I think).. When I selected "IBM Tools" in Add/remove Programs, it opened up with more selections. One of them was IBM Connector. When I deleted that, Lenovo's systemupdate.exe installed OK.

Glad you solved your problem. :D

To be candid, I don't remember ever seeing "Access IBM Tools" in Add or Remove Programs or anywhere for that matter. It must be something that came with your T40p. I have a T42.
