buying x60 w/ vista for future

#1 Post by codek » Fri Apr 27, 2007 7:01 pm

What do you guys think about buying vista with the x60s for the future and using a spare copy of xp pro on the x60s.

I have a feeling that the x60s will perform better with xp pro.

Also can I get rid of the partition and put vista and thnkvantage on a dvd?

Lastly will I be able to install thinkadvantage on my spare copy of xp pro

I'm doing something similar, though my X60s came with XP Pro and the Vista coupon.

XP does have a smaller footprint on system resources, but perhaps more importantly (especially if you use the 4-cell slim battery) it also tends to be easier on power.

Yes. When you create the restore discs for the recovery partition, you can use that disc set to make it look just as it did when it came out of the factory (right down to the hidden recovery partition).

You can download the XP versions of the drivers and software from the Lenovo web site, or download the Lenovo System Update tool and let it auto-detect and install your desired ThinkVantage stuff.

Thanks for the reply and how did you get your xp pro with coupon?

I'm planning to buy one now an x60s, x60t or a t60p.

I bought mine at a time when the Vista Express Upgrade programme was running. The system came with XP Pro out of the box, and with a copy of the invoice was able to get a copy of Vista Business Upgrade for a nominal shipping fee.

If you can afford to wait a bit, it might be worth seeing exactly what the T61s end up being.. that being said I'm very happy with the X60s.
