R60 Bluetooth does not work

#1 Post by Kareng » Sun Apr 29, 2007 2:38 am

Dear All

I live in rural Victoria, Australia and just purchased an R60 with 2GB RAM and 1.66Ghz clock speed running on XP Pro.

I eschewed a Vista model because I have some aviation navigation hardware and software which I use regularly and is not Vista compatible. No patches are available right now.

My first post here concerns the Bluetooth device installed on my thinkpad as part of the MS bundle. I have previously used a PCMCIA card with accompanying installed software to connect to my GPS mouse. This was a class 1 device which is now somewhat superceded.

I purchased an unpdated mouse but the BT will not activate. I turned it on using the ThinkVantage resource centre but, when I click on the BT icon on my desktop, nothing happens at all. No Wizard to establish pairing, no device manager to play with and no connection.

When I read all the stuff on the MS site, it tells me to:
(1) go to My Computer, RH click, Hardware, Device manager, Network Adaptor and then BT... BT isn't there; or

(2) go to Start, Run bthprops.cpl, OK, Options, Turn Discovery On, Apply, Click Allow BT Dev to connect... bthprops.cpl won't run.

Double clicking the BT icon on the desktop does nothing and if I click on the small BT icon in the information area, it tells me "Bluetooth device not found".

I've checked at Program Files, Thinkpad, Bluetooth and the prgram appears to be there. I also tried starting it using the shortcut in that folder and still nothing happens.

I must be doing something utterly stupid, but please be gentle as I'm neither young nor technology-wise.

Thanks

Kaz

hi kareng,

there's a small switch at the left side of the front of the laptop beside the speakers. this is the wireless switch w/ch controls both the WLAN & bluetooth network cards of the R60.

is it turned on?
Why worry?

hi!

I have the same problem. Mine is a R60 9462A37.

Can't seem to get bluetooth working. I've already switched it on using Fn+F5 and the bluetooth signal lights up.

When I tried updating the firmware using

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-64741

It said "The DFU Wizard did not detect a matching Bluetooth device.."

Also I installed

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-61425

When I click on My BlueTooth places, it says "BlueTooth Device Not Found"

The BlueTooth shows up as Broadcom USB Bluetooth Device in Device Manager and its model number is BCM2045A

Can anyone help me?? Please??

Bluetooth licence check failed. Please make sure that the Bluetooth device is plugged in/turned on, the device you are using is licensed for this software and that your licence has not expired.

My bluetooth was definitely on.. but i keep getting the same error message. can anyone help? please?
