USB 2 ports recognize as usb 1 after new install

#1 Post by Ancient » Mon Apr 30, 2007 6:07 am

I reinstalled my t42p (with my own wondows cd) and since then wehnever i plug in a USB 2 device it comes up with the slow warning and that i should plug it into an usb 20 device it then provides me with a list of about 8 usb 2.0 ports which is weird as afaik my 42p only has 2 :-p.

I tried reinstalling the USB hubs but it doesnt help. Need help please.

Are you using a Sp2 cd? Because Xp sp1 does not have the usb2 drivers.

Then in that case i would say get a set of recovery cd's for your model here at the marketplace, and install it. If after that still have the USB1.1 problem it means that the problem lies in you motherboard, there are cases documented on the forum from members that after the fresh xp install encounter the same thing and only could resolve by replacing the motherboard. :banghead:

Good luck and please let us know how it goes.

I don't know if it would make a difference, but did you install the Intel Chipset drivers?

Even though SP1 and SP2 have the drivers for most enhanced controllers, they refuse to install them automatically for reasons I have not been able to isolate :s In my experience, all that's required is to go into device manager and try to install the drivers for the USB controller (which would appear under the yellow question mark list). If you just tell it to search for drivers automatically, it might find them.

Also try windows update.

Not a guarantee, but it has worked for me several times in similar situations.

Thx for your help so far guys.

The thing is there are no yellow question marks all the devices are recognized properly also for some reason i displays about 8 ports altough i only have two.

ANyway my fan died the other day so i sent it in for repair and asked them to have a look at the USb issue too.

btw I am really impressed with the support as they said they would return it within 5 working days :-)

there is a much-discussed hardware problem with the t4x series that has broken usb 2 support as a symptom.

your system might be suffering from it. hopefully they will put in a new system board which should get rid of the issue.
