Why so few used X32's?
Why so few used X32's?
Hi,
I rarely/never see X32's for sale on ebay or craigs list. I see plenty of x31's and x40's but almost every time I do a search for x32 all I can find are parts and accessories--no laptops. I know that IBM made X32's for a couple of years so why are there so few on the used market?

No, it was more like half a year, and that's why there're so few of them around.roblim wrote:I know that IBM made X32's for a couple of years

Pianowizard is correct, the X32 was marketed for less than a year before it was replaced by the X40.pianowizard wrote:No, it was more like half a year, and that's why there're so few of them around.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Does it mean, there were only limited numbers of X32 produced?JHEM wrote:Pianowizard is correct, the X32 was marketed for less than a year before it was replaced by the X40.

The X32 and the X40 were sold simultaneously for a while back in 2005. The X32 probably didn't sell well because to most people the X40's higher model number implied it's newer and better, when in reality they were two separate lines focused on two different things, with the X32 maximizing performance and the X40 minimizing weight. So, IBM discontinued the X32 prematurely.

Re: Why so few used X32's?
The X32 was introduced April 2005, most models were withdrawn November 2005 (seven months later), and then the last ones in April 2006.JHEM wrote:Pianowizard is correct, the X32 was marketed for less than a year before it was replaced by the X40.pianowizard wrote:No, it was more like half a year, and that's why there're so few of them around.
The X41 was actually introduced concurrently with the X32 in April 2005, so the X40 was not the replacement. Rather, I would like to believe that it was the debut of the X60 in February 2006 that precipitated the discontinuation of the X32.
