Should I update my BIOS?
Should I update my BIOS?
I am currently running BIOS version 1.09a on my T60. The Lenovo support web page "highly recommends" applying the new version 2.12 update. I am hesitant because I firmly believe "if it works don't fix it". I haven't updated my BIOS since I bought the machine. Any thoughts, anybody? Thanks for your input.

Go for it. You can revert back in case something doesn't work.

When was this version announced? I always wait for at least month before updating. Bugs are rare but they do happen, so I would rather let other people test a new version first.

I'm not quite sure when it was released.
I'm hesitant because I've heard horror stories from people who have tried updating their BIOS and then can never seem to get their system back to its previous state.
Just what would be gained by updating if everything is running okay now? Is there some possible "behind the scenes" benefit? Is there somebody to contact at Lenovo who can enlighten me as to why this update is "Highly recommended"?
(Sorry to be so neurotic but I'm very protective of my baby).

Here are the supposed changes/fixes for 2.12 from 2.11:
Version 79ETD2WW (2.12)
[Important] This BIOS contains a critical processor microcode update to improve system reliability. Lenovo highly recommends that you apply this BIOS update.
* (New) Expands allocated memory size for the CSS Hardware Password Reset Service.
* (Fix) Upgraded to the latest microcode update for Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
* (Fix) The WWAN device may not work on the Windows Vista, if if the key combination Fn+F5 is pressed during startup.
* (Fix) The modem port information in the SMBIOS table (type-8) is not correct.
However, it's a very long list from 1.09.
