Favourite thread section?

#1 Post by gator » Mon Apr 30, 2007 9:32 pm

I am sure that each one of us here have our own favourite threads. Is it possible to have some space to store the links for such threads? I am not talking about the 'sticky' - what I am saying is something like the "saved messages" area in our mailboxes on the forum.

I currently maintain a seperate list of URLs in a .html file to store the links of the threads I refer to commonly, or follow keenly. It'd be nice to have this feature integrated in the forum itself - easier to maintain, change and update. Maybe a portion of our "saved messages" can be allocated for this purpose.

Just my $0.02, comments/criticisms are welcome.

It does not appear that phpBB supports this feature/function. Your best bet would be to simply use your browser to store a bookmark to the thread in a specific folder. Not the most elegant solution, but it does make referencing them in a new post a lot easier. With Firefox, you can drag the bookmark from your drop-down list or link bar right into this posting window. The URL and description are pasted and then you just add the {url} tags.

I bookmark links in catagorized folders. The links that I want saved, but rarely reference I instead save in a Notepad file or Wordpad file. I give the file a name that will clue me to the link inside. I use Notepad when I am not adding very much text. I use Wordpad when I am quoting as well as posting a link. Occasionally I save a whole web page with my browser. This home-brewed method seems to work pretty well for me.

The only advantage I can see to saving them on the forum is if you use different computers that are not your own to browse the forum, and you want the links handy. These could of course be saved on a USB key.

If somehow it could be made possible to EDIT messages in your "Savebox", you could store them in there.

to quote nonny, this is a DIY venue..

send me some code and i'll see if it can be integrated..
OR
go to the phpBB web site and join in the discussions there on enhancements..

then go through the MOD process to see how well it integrates with the whole package..
