Upgrade hard drive for T40p using docking station

#1 Post by Andman » Tue May 01, 2007 12:20 am

I'm about to upgrade the hard drive for my T40p from the original 40GB to the Hitachi 100GB drive recommended by other members. I want to create an exact clone of my existing drive, including the HPA. I've read the previous posts on cloning hard drives, but still have a couple of questions:

1. I have a docking station and was planning to place the new drive in the hard drive bay for the cloning process. Will this work? Will I get the geometry errors described in other posts?

2. What do I have to do to ensure the HPA is cloned? Do I need to go into the BIOS prior to using the cloning software?

Thanks for your advice!

what application will you use to clone the drive..??

i use acronis true image..
and create backup images..

then i can restore to one or several HDD's..

in answer to your direct questions,

1. yes, it should and should NOT give you any errors..

2. if using True Image just be sure to select both partitions when creating the image.. or cloning..

Thanks for your reply. I'm planning to use the Acronis application. My hard drive currently has three partitions, in addition to the HPA. Am I correct in understanding that I can use the cloning software to select all four partitions and I don't have to go into the BIOS and make the HPA visible?
