if you bought the accidental protection coverage for $100 extra, couldn't you just break the lcd with your hands and then have them replace it? (not that I am condoning such malicious behavior)

they have a good return policy. but it doesn't matter where you order. my x41 also has dead pixels. so i'm not even going to worry about this. btw, my 8 year old old t21 and 600e lcd is good as new.

I suspect if you made a habit of creating such "replacement needs" you would probably be dropped from coverage. Probably if you had enough legitimate accidents they would eventually drop you from the plan too.

Good point. But at least you would also be covered if you got extra sloppy at the end of your 3 year warranty period.

Regardless of the ethics of what some people are suggesting, there is no guarantee that the replacement has fewer dead pixels than your current display.

It's luck of the draw. In my experience, you have a 50/50 shot at getting one without defective pixels. I always check for them, even though I shouldn't bec. most are really unnoticable in everyday use. And when I know that they are there my eyes are drawn to them.

i would stay away from the rubbing fix too, you usually end up creating micro scratches on the LCD and just makeing the situation worse.

Good luck to you.
According to the IBM LCD replacement policy, 1 dead pixel isn't enough to convince them to replace a new one for you!!!
