Grinding fan

My system fan has started to really grind when it fires up. If I bang the laptop down (bad I know), it goes away. I really don't want to send it in for warranty work because my Thinkpad is my main system at this point (my desktop is fried). Is there anything I can do about it short of sending it in for warranty? I will send it in eventually because I know grinding means that the fan is shot, but is there anything I can do in the meantime?

Try open your TP to see if the FAN is sitting
porperly. If it's sit right but sill have noise,
you can order the new fan from Lenovo & replace
it yourself. Sench support for instructions.
