Saw this thread on the Vista forum and it describes exactly my problem, but I have XP so the suggested fixes aren't applicable. Just received my first T60p after benefiting greatly from this forum. Happily, I haven't run into significant problems and I've been able to fix the minor ones EXCEPT for opening pdf files from the internet or a memory stick. I've installed Adobe reader 8.0 but I get the same error message above when I try to open a pdf. When I say ok to the installer, it tries to install Reader 7.0 until it realizes that 8.0 is already installed and freezes. I CAN open Reader 8.0 and then open the file but this is a time-consuming workaround.

Any suggestions?

Thanks much. :)

Aw, Adobe Reader can be such a pain! I also have vers 8 and I think I went into Add/Remove programs and removed the other versions. You can also just download another .pdf application and use that, there are better than Adobe (which is a really huge program). If you open Adobe Reader and click on Help, there is also a Repair Adobe Reader Installation you can click on; maybe that would help.

Good luck

Have not personally used this one, but it was highly rated recently by PC Magazine:

I LOVE Foxit and use it on my Dell Axim, since Adobe Reader Mobile is even more squirrely than the PC version. It is not a freeware, but I am still using the trial version, I highly recommend it.

We've had some weird issues with adobe reader 8 on our company network for some who remote in, I installed 8 on the server and some of the remote clients are having issues with some of the formatting when they pull up a pdf to read it, I had everyone update their machines to 8 and seems to have helped for now.

Thanks everyone! I removed Adobe Reader and installed Foxit. There is a free version -- doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it is sufficient for me. Problem solved. :D
