#1 Post by minstap » Thu May 03, 2007 3:32 pm

has anybody been able to make successful copies of the t41 xp pro recovery discs?

i find that if i try to run them on my t41 they don't work.

What happens when you try to run them? I don't have T41 disks, but I have copied T40, T42 and T43 disks with no problem

Yes. I had no problems at all.

What software are you using to make the copies? I have used both Nero 7 and Sonic RecordNow! too make successful copies on my T41.

t41 recovery discs copyable? -->yes.. now activation?

#5 Post by minstap » Fri May 04, 2007 3:02 am

silly me, they now work - i eventually used the copy feature in nero and the cd's are copying.

I want to completely wipe and re-create the system including the recovery partition on my new hdd.

It seems now i get stuck when recovering my t41 using these discs. the cd boots and a swap betweek cd1 and cd2 and then back to cd1 again, the machine reboots and then asks me to activate windows.

A friend has suggested i low level format the drive first - which is happening as i speak.

Should the recovery discs even activate? or am i doing something wrong?

Thanks for all your answers!

If you use the recovery CDs on a HD containing an existing copy of Windows they will perform a "repair" of the OS rather than a complete reinstallation. This is an MS "feature" and not due to anything Lenovo has done.

Wiping the HD will correct the problem and give you a blank slate to start with.
