3Com xjack card questions

I just purchased a (2nd hand) 3Com 3CRWE62092B PCMCIA card, with the Xjack antenna that is so highly regarded in these forums, and I have a few questions:

First, I noticed that to retract the antenna, the card must be tilted vertically. If horizontal, the antenna doesn't 'catch' and springs back out - is there a fix?

Second, what is the preferred software - the XP.SP2 wireless network connections, the 3Com bundled software, or IBM Access Connections (or any others)?

Third, I notice that even with the antenna retracted (presumably turning the card off) the PCMCIA card gets really warm. Is this normal?
