Hello.
[premise I've [censored] about several times already]I've come to a point of desperation. The T61 is heinous and Lenovo doesn't do 14.1" 4:3 T60ps down here (in NZ) anymore. I've been looking for one of these for years, and right before I go to get a T60p, they get rid of the UXGA 15", then IPS all together, and now there are no 4:3s left. So....[/premise]
What's the difference (if any) between models sold to US customers and those sold to AUS/NZ customers? Other than the connector on the end of the line cord, and the power cable... (I'll get NZ versions of these). The US site still lists the 14.1" model as available, on a 2613CTO. The NZ model, when available, was 20078JM...
Oh, and what's the deal with warranty? I called Lenovo a while ago and they moaned about being different entities and not being able to honour US lenovo's warranties... but, what? Excuse me? Really?
I laugh at myself in pity, as it was on account of these unknowns that I didn't get the IPS while they were still around.
Sigh.
Thanks in advance,
Growly

Growly:
With respect to (international) warranty coverage, I'm also very interested in this (particularly on PC's bought in the USA, and "privately" exported abroad) - and I haven't yet come to a clear conclusion on this... but there is one interesting piece of information about world-wide coverage of Lenovo warranty in this thread; see RasmusP's post of April 18. You might also want to check my post of April 23 in this thread.
The T60 I'm writing this on actually has a serial number starting with "L3", so according to RasmusP's information, it ought to be covered by international warranty. However, when I check to see whether it actually is covered by international warranty, this is what I learn:
First, I go to Lenovo's Warranty Status page and there I select "Automatically detect if your system is IWS eligible" then "Detect and continue". Upon that, Lenovo responds: "This Machine Type is not eligible for International Warranty Support." So, what am I to believe?? Something is quite unclear about Lenovo's international warranty, I believe.
I am sorry if the above might not be of much specific help, but I just wanted to make you aware of this slightly tricky issue... If you are able to dig any IBM/Lenovo-confirmed information up on this specific issue, please share it here - thanks!
God luck with your purchase, once you finally get that far!
Best regards,
Johan

Re: Australian/NZ T60p vs US T60p
Can you perhaps post some specs from your country's website so that we can do some comparison.Growly wrote:

Well when I go there, it does not detect my serial # but only the Type # and shows this: http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w21/ ... titled.jpgJohan wrote: The T60 I'm writing this on actually has a serial number starting with "L3", so according to RasmusP's information, it ought to be covered by international warranty. For me they seem to offer in every single country, lenovo serves in.
So I think the "L3" factor is not the way of differentiating between IWS and regular warranty.

Re: Australian/NZ T60p vs US T60p
As far as I can see, everything is identical. So if it's on the site, i've checked it - I was wondering if there were niggly little bits that I wouldn't know unless someone with first hand experience could share stories about. Is there anything glaringly different between them?ryengineer wrote:Can you perhaps post some specs from your country's website so that we can do some comparison.
The specs are the same, as far as I can see (which is half the problem, because you can't always see everything).
Thanks for your side of the story - it's not clear cut, and unfortunately every call I make to Lenovo ends in more disappointment and more confusion.Johan wrote:So, what am I to believe?? Something is quite unclear about Lenovo's international warranty, I believe.
/edit: Oh, and it turns out I can't even make an account on the Lenovo US site to begin with (because I have no US address). I should've guessed... private exporting makes things even more complicated.
Oh man... it's just not fair :'(

Growly... no it jsut isn't fair. I really hate Lenovo and their US only outlet models. I understand they can't cost the same worldwide, but since it turns out that things are shipped from China to the US anyway, why on earth does the other Lenovo divisions offer this?
You have three choices:
eBay
Private exporting
USAbox.com or similar
eBay have crazy prices at times, but from time to time there are quite good deals to find. Depending on what you want you might have to search multiple times a day. Even if the sellers only ship to the US, please ask them anyway. Most of them do not have anything against shipping to New Zealand.
Private exporting - Do you have any family relatives in the US? I'd recommend you to put a WTB in the marketplace. I would help if i could, but i'm in the US. I have had excellent experience getting a machine shipped from the US to me, on this forum.
USAbox.com and similar services creates an adress for you in the US and redirects mail and packages to you. You actually have a physical mailbox. Due to the fact that there exists so many spam magazines in the US they scan the front page of all incoming stuff, so you have the opportunity to shred or send it onwards.
I'm not sure how much it costs or if the service is permanent.
