How to I set my computer stay wireless while in standby?

#1 Post by Vasant56 » Wed Oct 06, 2004 12:12 pm

I want to leave my internet on to download stuff, but I don't need the entire computer. Is it possible to change my settings so that I'm still downloading even when I close it (put it in standby).

Thanks.

The last time I looked, stuff will not run and download in Standby. If you want it connected and doing downloads, see if your download tool works as a service (can be done) and then just log off. Interactive mail and downloads won't work when logged off, but communications are still occuring at that point. ... JDHurst

Will I still be able to close it up and leave it in my bookbag? I like to d/l in math class, but it looks bad to have a laptop out in class.

Set your power properties to do nothing when you close the lid. That will turn off the monitor but not put the machine in Standby. Just don't forget and then pick it up in your bag and carry it around. You would have to place the machine in Standby manually. ... JDHurst

make sure you have it set to not suspend either... i think that if it's on "max battery" mode you may get kicked to suspend even if you are downloading something. not sure though, haven't really tried.

also, it will get HOT in your bag, so leave it open if you can and try not to block the vent.
