ERROR 2010 after installing new hard disk 80 Gb from Hitachi

#1 Post by equinoxe » Sun May 06, 2007 8:30 am

I know there already are a lot of topics concerning this error. However, I am not at all able to determine which type of new harddisk I bought and inserted in my T43.
The following information and numbers are printed on the disk:

MODEL:HTS541280H9AT00
N13508 E182115 T
HGS-HKP80H9AT0(B)
80 GB 5400 RPM ATA/IDE
P/N:0A50107 MLC:DA1628

Someone able to determine which disk this is please ?
Further assistance in "flashing" is highly appreciated if someone is able !!

Thanks for you reply, but I already found this one google today. It should be a Travelstar 5K120 type if I'm not wrong. Is this disk flashable with the software provided in this topic then please :

Many thanks for your answer.

I believe it is not. The HTS5410 drives are, but the HTS5412 drives are not. It is amazing to me how crude the software is. I have successfully flashed several drives (hitachi, toshiba and seagate) and turned none into paper weights, but every time is an adventure.

Should it be of any use making a clone from an identical disk and put the clone copy on the brandnew disk ?
When cloning, does it take all the stuff with it and put it back onto the new disk ?
I'm not sure myself, but what can we think of, at the end of all this 2010 misery ?

well... I've read a bit about the mysterious error...
And my opinion is that it does not matter... for now..

I had for a while a t43 with seagate 40gb drive and the 2010 error,
i just went to bios, set there to continue booting without hiting esc and I just lived with it. It was anoying, but it was just a message and nothing else.

I agree that something should be done to "free us" and let use thinkpads with any possible drive without the error.
But I agree only because as it was mentioned there are steps towards Trusted Platform and it could be the begining of a bigger problem we could face in the future.
I appreciate all the efforts taken to flash the drives and find out what is realy going on and I think that those who have skills should continue their work.

As for now for me it's just a message... nothing else...

The issue is with the firmware on the drive, not the data on the platter(s), so cloning does not make any difference.

Update :

Found a new disk with the following references :

HTS548080M9AT00 80.0GB

According to the IBM file, this disk should be flashable. However, I tried several times and got an error after the first command already.

However, on the IBM file I found this info :

HTS548080M9AT00 80.0GB
"HTS548080M9AT00","MG4OA50A","MG4OA5HA","MG4IA5HA.bin","hfui12L.exe","IA5HA","/u MRLA5HA.tbl"
"HTS548080M9AT00","MG4OA55A","MG4OA5HA","MG4IA5HA.bin","hfui12L.exe","IA5HA","/u MRLA5HA.tbl"
"HTS548080M9AT00","MG4OA5BA","MG4OA5HA","MG4IA5HA.bin","hfui12L.exe","IA5HA","/u MRLA5HA.tbl"
"HTS548080M9AT00","MG4OA5DA","MG4OA5HA","MG4IA5HA.bin","hfui12L.exe","IA5HA","/u MRLA5HA.tbl"

This is the error I get :

Invalid *.bin Parameter Name!!MG4IA5HA.BIN

Somebody able to post me here exactly what to do please ?

Many many many thanks for your help !!!

First, I am sorry in advance if you turn your drive into a coaster.

Start the software and hit F5 to get a command prompt. The program you need to run is HFUI12L.exe.

Run this command line:

HFUI12L.exe OA5H5 MG4IA5HA.BIN /F MRLA5HA.TBL

Press "U" in the program

(note: the "I" was changd to "O" in the first parm)

Ignore the failure notice.

Then run this

HFUI12L.exe IA5H5 MG4IA5HA.BIN /F MRLA5HA.TBL

Press "U" in the program and it will flash the drive.

I'm sorry that the software sucks.

Sorry to say, but I get the same error :

Invalid *.bin Parameter Name!!MG4IA5HA.BIN

However, I did exactly as I was told in the previous post.

Don't know what is happening...

I have flashed that exact drive the way I described.

Are you running from CD or floppy? Is the bin file in the current directory?

I'm running the stuff from cd. I suppose all the files are in the root on the cd. I checked and I see all the necessary files on the cd though.

Shouldn't IA5H5 be IA5HA ? Just a question you know, as I can see IA5HA in the FW.PRO file instead of IA5H5.However, I tried with IA5HA before, and I got the same error.

Don't know what's going wrong...
