T60 - Should I buy it or not?

Hi,

I am currently thinking about buying a T60 (2007QXU) and actually wanted to order it next week. However, I read through this forum and saw this topic about the heat problems of the graphic card. I am not someone who is playing games a lot but if I buy a laptop like the T60 with a good graphic card in it, I definitely want to be able to play some games when I want it.

So, before I really buy the T60 I wanted to ask what you would recommend. Should I wait until the problem is fixed? Should I search for alternatives? Should I buy it because it is working good enough, although the temperature is a little bit higher than it should be?

Any comments that help me making my decision are welcome

I've had problems with heat on my t60, although not as bad as some, and even with that overall I'm extremely pleased with my purchase.

If I had a chance to purchase it again with 20/20 hindsight I'd defintely do it again.

I want to order my laptop with 1 GB RAM and then add an additional 1 GB stick afterwards. Therefore I would like to know if it is easy or difficult to add another stick and if there is maybe a "how-to" somewhere.

Adding a new stick or RAM is fairly trivial. One thing you might want to look out for is if you order 1GB of RAM it will (most likely?) come as 2 x 512MB sticks.

So if you want to upgrade to 2GB of RAM you might need to replace both sticks of RAM. Unless you get lucky and the 1GB of RAM comes in one stick and you still have a free slot for another 1GB of RAM.

I'd ordered two T60 between 2006-2007 directly from lenovo and in my experience, I got both with 1GB sticks.

When you plan to do this by yourself. Please take note that memory modules are sensitive items, so be careful when inserting and removing them, specially around the clips that hold them on the side (this comes in contact with the notches as described on step 5 from the link).

Also, it is not much noted on the palm rest installation instructions/movie that the tabs located at the bottom side of the front end are weak. It is best to inspect the alignment with the magnesium frame a couple of times before inserting so as not to bend/break them.

It is really easy... I did exactly just that in less than 5 minutes. Make sure you only the 1 G of RAM, 1 SODIM. Not 2.

Thanks again for your answers and the links! I had hoped that the slots would just be located at the back of the notebook but after watching the video I think it shouldn't be a problem to remove the palm rest either.

Since I have to buy a pre-configured model because of international warranty I will probably buy the 2007QXU model.

I don't know if I can configure it. Has anyone experiences with that? Can I call Lenovo to order the laptop and tell them that I want only one memory stick in it and also a 6 cell battery instead of a 9 cell battery?

if you're in the US or any country that allows you to customize you're laptop, just go in for 1 chip instead of two. Else your dealer can do a swap for your 2 512 chips and get you single 1 gb chips instead. Like everyone said, its easy....
