creation of recovery media

#1 Post by bodik » Mon May 07, 2007 7:34 am

Hello,

I installed vista (using "two installations" trick) from moduslink dvd. After installation, I downloaded system update 3 and installed r&r 4. but now I'm unable to create recovery media. After selecting rescue medium (DVD) it shows: "excracting files" and after few seconds "An internal error has caused this process to fail". Does anybody know, how to solve it? Or is this a feature I cannot made recovery media because I bought thinkpad originally with windows xp and vista is only upgrade edition?

Thank you

I have that problem too. I haven't found a solution yet. I did use Vista's back up utility to make some sort of recovery cd.

Recovery media Problem

#3 Post by Rolloclan » Tue May 22, 2007 8:12 pm

here are a couple of things to try and think about:

I have found that the first rescue disc must be a CD, rather than a DVD. Even though the option is there for a DVD, The Rescue and Recovery workspace does not support booting from a DVD, It can be booted from a CD however.

Rescue media functions like a boot diskette, however it is:
- About 350 MB in size by default, (plenty of room on a CD for this)

Try this and see if you get the same error. Let me know how it works out!

thank you for your reply.

I've created recovery cd from previously installed XP, and first disk is dvd too and I haven't problem to boot system from dvd.

Maybe you didn't understand it exactly, I have problem with creation of recovery disks set in vista. Dialog is shown after a few seconds after I click on information:

This operation will create recovery media. Rescue media enables you........etc

Does anybody else try to create recovery dvd when upgrading to vista from moduslink?
