Hi
I've got a T42 with the Radeon 7500 32Mb card and 1024x768 display, and have just connected an external LCD with 1280x1024 display. At present I'm using VGA, but will change to DVI once I've got a Minidock or Dock II.
Eventually, after reading through these forums, plenty of trial and error (and, frankly, luck) I managed to get the external to work by using Fn+F7. Trying via the ATI control panel was hopeless.
However, there is still an issue I would like to fix.
I have set Fn+F7 to toggle. When I have the T42 screen only on, it is 1024x768, when I have the external LCD only on it is 1280x1024. However, when I have both on they are both 1024x768. Is there any way to get the LCD to remain at 1280x1024 in this dual monitor situation please? Either with the VGA setup, or once I switch to DVI.
I found a thread (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=23703) that concluded that the T42 can display only one resolution at a time, but elsewhere read that multiple resolutions are possible.
I appreciate any help.

RE:Multiple resolutions
Just a shot in the dark here, but try the presentation manager from lenovo's site. It should do what you want and can be set to be activated through fnf7.

Many thanks for the advice truk. This is actually how I set up my external monitor, using the Presentation Manager Fn+F7 toggle to switch between the two displays.
As things stand, I decided to simply work around the resolution issue by not using two displays. I found the external only is sufficient for now. So, when I switch my T42 display automatically goes to the external monitor. Actually, only the external monitor. Fn+F7 now does nothing at all!
Frankly, I find Presentation Manager a very nice feature but one that needs a little work.
Anyway, again, many thanks
