R60 screen models

#1 Post by newmark » Mon May 07, 2007 5:50 pm

Hi all, first time poster.

I intend to buy a Thinkpad R60 - the 9461DXG model, with a 15" SXGA+ screen. On IBM's site it is mentioned that the screen can be either a Samsung (13N7128) or an LG-Philips (13N7130). Does anybody know the actual models that these FRU numbers correspond to? Based on the information on the Samsung/LG-Philips sites, the screen might be a Samsung LTN150P4 or LTN150PG, or an LG-Philips LP150E06 or LP150E07. The problem is that each of these screens has different specs, that's why I was interested in the exact models. Also, not all models are listed on the Samsung/LG-Philips sites.

If you've got a 15" SXGA+ R60 (preferably bought recently), could you please check what screen you have? I'm not sure how exactly to do that, though :D. You can try "Display Properties" or - if you get "Plug and play monitor" - you can go to Device Manager -> Monitors -> Plug and play monitor -> Properties -> Details, choose Hardware Ids from the list, and tell me what's written below - it should be something like "Monitor\xxxxxxx". Or you can use something like Everest, which will find it for you.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot, Fusion. You have the Samsung screen and the model is LTN150PF-L03. I did some additional search and it seems that the LG-Philips model is LP150E07-TL03. It seems to be pretty difficult though to find the exact specs of these screens, as they are missing from the official sites; I emailed Samsung and LG-Philips asking for more information.

I'm still waiting for an answer from Samsung/LG.

In the meantime, could you please tell me what's your personal opinion about the screen? I'm referring to viewing angles, brightness, colors... Also, do you intend to use the laptop only for office stuff, or have you also tried to watch a movie and play a game? If so, how was it? Did you notice any ghosting, for example? Are the colors ok or do they look washed out? Also, how does the screen compare to other glare or anti-glare displays that you've seen?

I'm considering buying an R60 but I'm having some trouble finding a real one in a store, where I could have a look at. So I'm thinking about buying it online, which means I have to rely only on technical specs and reviews for the moment.

I use my R60 for business stuff, graphical applications and dvd/divx movies. I think the screen is brilliant, and this isn't just my opinion, my friends that have Asus/Acer laptops say theirs can't compare to it. I haven't noticed any ghosting when watching movies and have also played GTA San andreas with full specs and didn't notice any flaws.

I've always wondered why people don't seem to pay much attention to their laptop screens. A desktop monitor people are always fussing about contrast ratios and response time, but I tried to find out the details of an r60e....... thanks for that util... I will try it out. Then contact the manufacturer to ge the specs, eh....

I totally agree with you, Mackmirillo. I intend to buy a laptop and it was incredibly hard finding any specs about the screens used in several notebooks - everybody just seems to ignore the complete lack of information.

Concerning the R60e, if the screen is not listed on the Samsung or LG-Philips sites, it's gonna be extremely difficult to find out the technical specs. You can try calling Lenovo/IBM and asking; I couldn't do that so I had to ask by mail. I sent emails to 3 or 4 Samsung addresses and an LG-Philips one and got absolutely no reply. I couldn't find an address for Lenovo so I tried asking a guy that writes a blog for them - no answer. I sent an email to legendny.com, which provides electronical parts for Lenovo, and they said they do not have that info in the database and that I should call IBM. So I gave up; maybe you'll have better luck.
