T21 AC adapter dead?

#1 Post by SteveGT » Mon May 07, 2007 6:45 pm

My wife went to use her T21 this morning to find it totally dead. The battery in it doesn't hold a charge at all, so she has been using it with the AC adapter exclusively. No lights on the TP, nothing. I put a volt meter on the PC end of the power supply, negative on the outside, and positive on the inside - it didn't register power.

I'm guessing the adapter is dead. I realize this unit is getting pretty old, but I'm kind of surprised it gave out. Is this a common problem?

Also, I've seen a few non-OEM adapters on ebay. Does anybody have experience with these?

Wires flex and break over time. It may have given out for other reasons. I would get a direct IBM replacement (eBay may be a good source of these). ... JDH

Hi,

My T21 adapter is dead also when I tried to plug it in the room that I rent during holidays.

It makes Bzzz, bzzz and stop to function.

Grrrrr.

I use actually a compaq presario 1255 in remplacement.

Original IBM was 16V 3.36A and compaq is 19V 3.16A

But voltage depend of this is in your house I believe. It is not a stable 220V in france. 200/240 it seems.
So the voltage in out is also variable.

And the Intensity A is function of notebook need if my memory is good enough.

If you watch to website that sell adapter, it precise 15/17V for the ibm one and 17/20V for the compaq.

And if I believe you on this forum, your out is 16V/4.5A in US so also différent.
T42 is paid and I hope seller is serious (pro). Waiting it.(no signs, reclaim in place)
