T61 choices help

#1 Post by slojes » Wed May 09, 2007 11:38 am

I've been waiting for this T61 for a few months and could use some help with a few of the choices please.
Video: Intel GMA X3100 GM965 w/ 1394 or the nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M? I'm OK with WXGA screen. Opinions?

Intel Turbo Memory - what does that do? If you select it, then you can not get Wireless WAN.

Express card slot vs media card slot. What might I use an express card slot for?

Last, is it worth continuing to wait until July 07 for the FDE hard drive option?
THANKS!
Ignore last 3 questions. I researched the Turbo Memory item - looks good, express card slot - duh (this is my first laptop) and I can't wait any longer for the hard drive coming in July! Thanks.

I too am wondering which chipset is better?
nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M or the Intel GMA X3100 GM965 w/ 1394?

140M is definitely better than the X3100 in terms of graphics performance. In terms of battery life, the X3100 might have a slight edge, but the 140M draws a pretty low amount of power according to it's tech specs.

A quick answer.

The Intel X3100 is a fairly basic chip, but will run Vista Aero and less demanding games.
The Nvidia nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M will do that and do CAD/Gaming well (it'll run Oblivion, for example).

Someone in another post linked a PC world review of the T61. In the test score section, the nvidia nvs 140m scored almost 1900, the ATI x1400 close to 900, the new Intel integrated about 670.

So the nvidia nvs 140m is a huge step up from the old ATI x1400.

But where's the mid-range option, the X1400 is a low end chip. Will we have to wait for the T61p?
