X61/X61s in China

#1 Post by khtse » Thu May 10, 2007 1:14 am

http://digi.163.com/07/0509/18/3E2PDO9D001628BV.html
http://www.beareyes.com.cn/2/lib/200705 ... 510062.htm

The sites mention almost nothing about the specification of X61s...
Notice the 4:3 screen and IBM logo. Actually I don't see any difference between X61s and X60s beside the position of the finger print reader.
(The T61 showned in above has 4:3 screen as well, maybe 4:3 screens are available in China?)

The Thinklight is moved to the left side and I think that is an indication of builtin camera....

wow, this is really cool. now lenovo can talk about it on their blog since it has been published and the info is out about it.

It would be great if they would just tell us what the plans are for introduction timing on this is.

they've already announced the t61 and r61 now that santa rosa is officially on the market, so they can announce details and launch date for the x61.

I wonder if they've corrected the right palmrest issue in the X61.

They had better fix that design flaw.

Has x60 had any problem with right palmrest?

Any of you insiders have a notion of when the X61 will be released? Without a forthcoming Intel announcement to set a milestone it's tough to know whether it'll be two weeks or two months...

Thanks.

Did they "solved" the right palm rest temperature issue with a consequence that they have to move the fingerprint reader to the right side? <--- if it is true... that's incompetent... I think the fingerprint reader looks best in its original position (middle of edge of a crescent shadow)

Also, why do they move the ThinkLight? The upper screen bezel is thin and it is really possible to embed a webcam there?

Absolutely. The wireless card is directly below and the heat rising from it can be unbearable at times.

I would gladly have the fingerprint reader on the right side if it meant a cooler palmrest. Visually, I agree that it doesn't look as nice, and laying your palm on it as you type might be a problem.

Note that this does not affect all X60/X60s units. It appears that units with Atheros wireless are more prone to high temperatures, but I believe there are other variables as well.

I just hope they might change the design a bit, giving it update to its look.

I completely agree about the design of this tablet. This design 'language' has been a classic for many years, but even classics need to get updated eventually.

Apple has updated their design language on an ongoing basis, and their products are showpieces, and they work great.

I still plan on getting an x61 but I wish that the image that it gives off, would be more 'state of the art' and show its leading edge technology through its appearance qualities and join today's world with an up-to-date outter presentation of its design.

I dont know...I love the design of my x60...I like that it is rugged and very utilitarian...function over form. Sure...a camera and other toys would be nice...but I'd love it to remain that same rugged piece of equipment

Anyone know anything about what video card its going to have? (I'm guessing a built-in Intel card)

On our office X60 with a 2Ghz C2D, Counter-Strike: Source doesn't load up properly.. the screen goes blank (lol) :(

If the new X61 can play CS:S, then this is going to be my next desktop replacement.

My 14.1" T60 is getting too heavy :P

Those screens don't look very bright even with the power plugged in while sitting on the table :?

they moved the wifi card right in the middle and added vents on the side. i'm not liking where that fingerprint reader is. might as well put the trackpoint elsewhere too, like next to the power button perhaps. i'm sticking to my X60s.

It's nice to see that the IBM logo is still on the X61 at least!

Too bad it's been removed from the T series already (and quite possibly others).

Anyone know what kind of video adapter this will sport? Hopefully something more powerful?

It looks like it'll be Intel's integrated GMA X3100 graphics.

You can find links to the announcement letters in this thread:

That's excellent! If the specs of later models are good (higher res, less weight), then I might buy one and my T60 won't be my last Thinkpad.
