T61 15 inch
Hi,
Can someone tell me if there will be any 15 inch models for T61 or is it just 14 inch?? And also is the price going to be in similar range to 14 inch or will it be costly??
If there is a 15 inch model, do they have any release date yet??
thank you very much

Sadly, that is the truth ... I did read somewhere that "corporate" (read, "espensive") buyers MIGHT get a 15.0 4:3 option, but only for T61 (and no more).brentpresley wrote: Say it ain't so! I'm going to cry.

There is still a demand/need/niche for FlexView, which is in the 15" 4:3 form factor.
This is the top-of-the-line thinkpad with high profit margins, so hard to imagine the high-end, high-margin product disappearing. It may have scarcity however, so did the T60 15" 4:3 FlexViews sometimes.

If that link is legit, then there will be a 15.4" T61p, as well as a new video card option. Here's hoping!

Actually, 16:10. 16:9 is for TVs.Bigben wrote:The general trend for displays is to move to 16:9 screens

I keep seeing this sentiment. That a 4:3 is more practical for business applications?Bigben wrote: It's too bad there won't be a 4:3 option, as I find that's much more practical for business applications. What is the thinking behind this? I work on 4:3 and 16:10 throughout the day and night and I really can't see any advantage/disadvantage to one or the other for "business applications."

MS Word - Widescreen is a disadvantage here, since your documents are usually 8.5x11" and you lose vertical spacing to a 16:10 screen compared to a 4:3 screen.
Web design/browsing - Unless you can fit 2 pages on one screen, widescreen is again at a disadvantage since most websites don't take advantage of a wider screen.
Excel - Depends on the user, but similar to the MS Word issue above for me.
Powerpoint - Widescreen would be better here since your documents are wider than if you were using Word/Excel.
I would primarily use my laptop for web browsing, Excel, and Word, with some Powerpoint thrown in. 3 out of the 4 would be better served by a 4:3 display, and those 3 are the apps I use the most. Of course each user is different.

Word and Excel might be more usable if you have more vertical space, but if you bring up tools like the clipboard or the mail merge tool, they take up space on the right hand side by default, so widescreen does help here.
Personally, I'm still going for 4:3 screen.

I was disappointed that my Z61p with a 15.4 inch WUXGA had about a half inch less vertical height in the screen than my R50p with a 15 inch UXGA screen.
However, overall, I preferred the 15.4 inch WUXGA to the UXGA for getting more applications up at a time, more real estate.
The UXGA on the R50p is IPS and the WUXGA on current ThinkPads are not IPS.
Still, I'm looking forward to purchasing a T61 with WUXGA wide screen 15.4 inch screen this summer, hopefully by July 1.

But of course, both have the same rows of pixels (1200) and once you get used to the WUXGA's smaller texts/images, the Z61p has just as much vertical real estate as the R50p.barrywohl wrote:I was disappointed that my Z61p with a 15.4 inch WUXGA had about a half inch less vertical height in the screen than my R50p with a 15 inch UXGA screen.

I was reading the new T61 review at NotebookReview.com just up today: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.a ... inkPad+T61
and they mention this:
"Important to note is that this review covers the 14.1" widescreen version of the T61 series. Lenovo will be offering a 15" version soon, as they do for their T60, and eventually standard screen implementations of each size."
So will there be a 15" 4:3 version of the T61 eventually? I ask because the flexview option is back now on the 15" T60s, so here's hoping...
Edit: missed this in the review: "Some will be disappointed to know that the popular FlexView option in the T60 series will no longer be offered for the T61. This is a shame. The vertical viewing angles on the T61 are, like most laptops, poor."
oh well...
