Will this RAM work for my Z60m?

#1 Post by BioHazard » Fri May 11, 2007 10:09 am

I have a Z60m - model 2532 and would like to max the RAM to 2gb.

It came with a single 1g chip from the factory. So I have 1 slot open.

ZipZoomFly has a 1gb Corsair chip for $25 after rebate - it's PC2-5300 (DDR2-667).

Corsair's memory configurator - and Lenovo say I need DDR2-533 / PC2-4200 ram.

I'm just wondering if I have to match those specs or since, this chip on sale exceeds those specs - can I use it?

Can I mismatch w/ the 4200 chip that came from Lenovo or should I buy a pair so they are matched?

Thanks for your help

The Corsair chip should be downward compatible. Both chips will run at the speed of the slowest chip. If your TP can run memory in dual channel mode, you'd probably need an exact match.

Yep. Heck, for 25$ more I would get another gb and have faster ram if the rest of the system supports it.

I'm pretty sure you don't need a matched pair for dual channel though. Also, all laptops nowadays support dual channel, in fact they have for many years now.

You dont need exact pair. Intel 945 chipset support Intel Flex Memory Technology that enable dual channel in different size pairs.
