Places to visit in philadelphia?
My friend is visiting philly for the weekend ... what are the places he should not miss seeing? I got the following from google:
United States Mint, Delaware Art museum, Morris Arboretum, Bartram's Garden, Penn's Landing (for seeing sunset), Philadelphia Museum of Art
Any other interesting places/sites to visit?

Oh yah, you got a good list there Gator, I love the Phila. Museum of Art, my husband has performed there plus they have lots of great exhibits. I love to drive along the Skuykill and look at the college frat rowing houses, especially at night, they have very nice lights around everything. The big clock tower at the center of downtown, I think at the end of Broad St. It is my favorite city, next to Pgh.

Honestly? When I go downtown, it's either for the nightlife or for some hacky sack at Rittenhouse Square.rkawakami wrote:What'dya say Dan?
I'd walk through Old City if I were a tourista, and visit the historic sites. The art museum is good if you like art, and maybe just to appreciate big buildings! It's also good at night, right behind the museum, to view Boathouse Row. As Ray mentioned, the Independence Mall is a good place to visit (not a mall mall..) If you want a real mall, Franklin Mills Mall would be a good place to visit. It's HUGE (1.7 million square feet).
If they're into big crowds and loads of interesting people, South Street is a good place to check out. Bumper to bumper traffic down the entire strip, so definitely walk or bike through. Plus you can stop at Condom Kingdom if you get bored. Lots of good food and the smells of Philadelphia (the weird ones), all in one place. If they go there, make sure they stop at Lorenzo's Pizza between 2nd and 3rd. The BEST.
Make sure they stay in the heart of the city. Don't stray North, and especially not West. South is good, all the Italians are there.
If your friend is into expensive food and trendy restaurants, University City is a good place. Also, downtown on Market Street there are some good restaurants.
The Morris Arboretum, while technically in Philly, is right next to the 'burbs (Montgomery County). It's a beautiful place, but it is in fact a place full of trees and such. Not very exciting, unless your friend likes LSD. So unless they have their own transportation, getting their will take too long. Actually, I did my Eagle Scout project there- cleared some trails, put in benches, etc. Good times.gator wrote:Morris Arboretum, Penn's Landing (for seeing sunset),
Penn's Landing is at Front Street, which is where South Street ends. So you walk down South Street from 15th, and take a look at the Delaware River at the end. There's a bridge that crosses I-95 with some really weird huge stick people crossing it...There's a boat restaurant down there, and usually some kind of military defender boat-thingymabobber.
Directly across the river is the Tweeter Center (Camden), so if he's in town...say the 2nd of June, Roger Waters will be there (as will I!)...

Cheesecake maybe ... not cheesesteaks. We are from India ... both of us pure vegetarians. Cows are supposed to be be sacred, and even 99.9% of non-vegetarians from India don't eat beef. I have a hard time explaining people that I don't take even eggs. People seem to be very surprised hearing that, which I find amusingskitty4gzus wrote:its not what you see, but what you eat. he should be rastling down cheesesteak's till he cant breathe.
