AC or built in Vista Management - Trouble....

#1 Post by buddypad » Sat May 12, 2007 3:55 am

Hey,

I just get some troubles while using the AC under Vista. Actually I like the Access Connections - but whil introducing Vista, Microsoft enhanced it's networking capabilities.

Each time when I connect to an new network-environment the AC asks, if I would like to connect and wants to store this as a profile - that's really good!

But: A few seconds later Vista also wants to save this profile and asks if it is a private or a open-network and I also can adjust settings...

No I don't really know what the system is doing??!! Is it using the AC Profile or the Vista profile? Are they both working together or not? Can't I deactivate the Vista-stuff???

All really confusing...

Sorry for digging this out but the question wasn't answered and I just stumbled upon the same problem being a new Vista user.

So, anyone know how to disable Vista network profiles management so that Access Connections can take care of everything?

PS. Funny that both of us come from Germany :).

I am using Access Connections 5.02 with Vista Business 64-bit and I do not recall having to disable Windows profile management. They seem to play nicely together as I use Access Connections exclusively and never see the Windows tool. Please let us know if what I said does not ring true for you. ... JDH

No, I get the same behavior as described by the thread author. If a connection is made at a new location, both Vista and Access Connections pop up their "new location" dialogs.

You can lookup the Vista profiles by going into Network and Sharing Center, clicking on the Customize and then on the link on the bottom of the window (Join or Delete Network Locations or something similar, not sure, I have a German Windows). Do you have anything there?

Come to think of it, and based on your description, the dialogue box I get for a new connection (wired only), is the Windows one. But I only get the one so far as I can recall. If I am setting up a new wireless connection, I only see the Access Connections dialogue.

I did not see the customize function. ... JDH

There was some way to make Access Connections not to pop up a dialog for LAN connections.

The Customize option I talked about can be seen when you're connected. Take a look here. The window that pops up looks like this. The list of network locations can be displayed by clicking on "Merge or delete network locations" on the bottom.

I see the customize option today while wired in. I am sure it was not there yesterday on wireless.

So here is what I see (some of this is from recent memory):

1. When on a wire (new connection) Windows asks me to label the connection (Default or whatever). Access connections does not ask me to do this.

2. When on wireless, Windows does not appear.

3. For any connection (marked in Access Connection to try on startup), I get an AC box giving me connection progress.

4. For any connection unchecked in AC (switching options), and not on a wire, nothing happens. I get no dialogue box. Then I select my connection manually.

This all takes longer to describe than to do. My semi-manual method eliminates common problems. ... JDH

Ok. Thanks a lot for your help. It seems that dismissing the Vista dialog is enough, all settings from the AC profile seem to work. I can live with that.
