PowerManagement: NHC, Vista built-in and IBM

#1 Post by buddypad » Sat May 12, 2007 4:02 am

Hi,

what about Power Management under Vista....?

I wanna use NHC to get my TP a bit more quiet than it is at the moment....

Currently I'm using the IBM-Power-Manager as well as the Vista-Power-Management tools (I don't really know, which Profile the System is using)

Now I want to install NHC to control the fan-speed and and and... What will the system say, if I'm using THREE different power-tools?? How can I manage it, to use them in an effective way? What are your settings (setups??)

Cheers Buddy

Hi,

when I installed vista, i had all three of the applications that you mentioned, how i used to manage it was, i had the IBM power manager profile set to the blank one in the list, so the power manager would not change the power settings in anyway, i only had it installed to have the task bar battery icon and for it to manage my charge levels, (only charge when below %80 etc).

For NHC there was an option in "CPU Speed" tab, called "Only NHC is allowed to change the power plane", i had that unchecked as well so it wouldn't interrupt, if you don't see the CPU Speed tab, go to the settings tab and click on "Show all NHC options and settings."

this way, windows power manager was the only application i used to change my power options and the other two would follow.

but since then i have removed NHC for two different reasons.

first and most important for some reason whenever i plugged or unplugged my charger it would drop my screen brightness to the lowest level which was annoying.

second: i didn't see a reason to have it anymore, windows vista has more than sufficient settings for me, you can even change ATI power play with profiles, so i can have my gaming profile that would crank up the ATI and a balanced profile that would lower its speed even if I'm plugged to keep the laptop nice and cool.

the only things i miss from NHC are the CPU temp and CPU clock in the tray. but i couldn't handle the brightness bug anymore, and it would take too long to run in system startup

I hope i was helpful, BTW, let me know if you have the same screen brightness issue with NHC.

I figure out the screen brightness bug in NHC, 100% means lowest level, and 78% means highest level, you have to set it in the graphics tab.
