T43 and wireless B
T43 and wireless B
I have my built in wireless working nicely. One problem is that on an older Linksys Wireless B router I just can't seen to connect. I have put in the WEP key many times without success. Is there an incompatibility?

JDH,
Thanks for responding.
I have checked and checked again but not being familiar with the T series I wanted to throw this out here since I have been playing with my new to me T43p for the last month.
Like when I first turned the T43p every time I exited explorer the home page changed back from what I just changed it to. The printer did the same thing. I posted here and someone immediately said to check the AC settings. Bingo that was it.
So I just thought I would post here again hoping for another quick and easy fix.
I am familiar with setting up the wireless but no joy.
Thanks
Brad

Make sure you haven't locked your WiFi card into 11g only mode. Check the setting on the device driver in the Windows Device Manager.Brad wrote:One problem is that on an older Linksys Wireless B router I just can't seen to connect.

For future posts, it would be really helpful if you gave us make and model number of the item you have problems with.
There might be a forum member withe the same hardware, who could have answered your question in a flash!
Speaking of, check the Linksys website to see if there is a firmware update for your router.
Or have a look at this specific Linksys routers forum:

Actually it was the Linksys model I was after.
Unfortunately Guinness does not travel well (other than inside the body [hic]).

JDH,
The point regarding not traveling well outside the body, right?
BEFW11S4 FW 1.45.10 dated 4/15/2004
I have attempted to upgrade the FW in the past without success. There is an error the likes of which escapes me at the moment.
Another pint of the RBS for both JDH and RBS!

Those routers are quite iffy. You need to look at the Model No. on the bottom of it, and only load the firmware that is specifically for that model.
The latest firmware seems to be 1.52.02.
On this DSLReport website nobody seems to really like it much.
I would suggest to dump it for a newer one.
If you want to stay with Linksys, look for the WRT54GL (ca. $60.-)

That router (as implied by RBS) is old. The firmware at 1.45 is valid for Versions 2, 3 and 3.2. Firmware 1.52 is for the version 4 router. Version 1 router uses Firmware 1.44 dated in 2002.
I have a client who had that router and married it to a T30 with an elderly IBM High Rate Wireless card. I have Firmware 1.44 and 1.45 here on my PC, so that means that is as far as I took that router.
So all taken into account here, the router is probably past it for your application and time for a new one, if such is in the cards for you. ... JDH

Another round for the boys (?),
That was, of course, the next step. This is the first time there was any trouble with connecting that was why I brought up this topic in the first place....
Thanks again,
Brad
