r60e screen upgrade.
Is it possible to upgrade the screen resolution on an r60e? I can buy the module, and I know the cable and inverter module are the same on the xga and sxga+ versions, but I am not sure if the lcd controller on the mobo will work - I want to upgrade to uxga from xga. I contacted screentecinc.com and they say it cannot be done, but this was an executive answering and their rational seems to be that upgrading the resolution didn't seem to work on other laptops...
Any idea?

i can sell you an approiate UXGA LCD which will work in the R60e you are describing. I purchased one from a T42p and installed it into an R60e without trouble. I recently picked up a second LCD panel just like it with the intention of installing it into a new R60 I was planning on purchasing at Lenovo's website. They pulled my preferred configuration from the site within the past week and now I'm just going to get a widescreen model so I've got that screen left over.
Chances are very good that you can swap your screen out the way you hope with only the panel. I purchased an extra pair of video cables before cracking the case on either of the two machines I upgraded only to find that both my R60 and R60e already had the bluetooth cable and the type ready for UXGA.
Contact me if you want to talk about buying that panel. Ultimately if you aren't interested it'll probably go up on ebay.

one more detail about that screentek comment. the screen in my R60 came out of one of the forum member's R50p models when he updated to QXGA resolution. I stuck it into an R40 when that laptop's old screen had issues. With the UXGA screen replacing my SXGA panel I had to resolve some issues creatively.
The issue I encountered on that particular system was that SXGA resolutions worked on the UXGA panel shifted to the top-left corner of the screen but otherwise normal with black bars on right and bottom. If running lower resolutions it was centered on that region of the screen (if not zooming). If running UXGA i'd get a strange display with some wrapping of the displayed image.
Within Linux I was able to work around the information being provided about the panel's resolution by ignoring the EDID info supplied by the bios and forcing the resolution directly. That trick was possible with the ATI drivers for linux. I think i read a similar trick possible with intel video drivers in general.
With my R50, and later R60, that same panel just worked as intended. With the R50 however I had a cable from an R50p supplied with the panel so that's how i used it. With the R60 I simply plugged things in with the existing cables and had instant gratification.
My R60 with ATI X1400 video is "nicer" in some ways at UXGA than the R60e with integrated intel video but I really love having a very nice high resolution IPS panel and would hate to go with any less.

Can I put a A21p UXGA screen into a R60e
I have an old A21p that after 2 to 20 minutes of running just powers down. Can I take the UXGA screen from it and put it into an R60e? Will the built in Intel graphics on the R60e drive the much higher res screen and are the cables compatible? What other questions should I be asking?
I have never done more than replace a HDD and add memory to a notebook. It amazes me that this might be possible, due to the age of my 6 or 7 year old A21p and the fact that the R60e is so new.
Anyone have a guess as to why the A21p powers down at its will and not mine? Hard, hardware type of power down. Like, all of a sudden, no power.
Thanks,
Peter
P.S. I put this up as a reply due to the similar nature of the original post. Sorry if this was incorrect.
