I kind of want to restore it to factory condition software-wise. It has a hidden partition after the regular C: drive partition (I noticed when I started to clone the 40G drive onto a larger 80G 7200 RPM Hitachi).
The cloning software I was using started to increase the size of both partitions proportionally. I quit that then.
Now I'm wondering
(A) where can i buy T42 restore disks
(B) can I make restore disks (CDs?) using the hidden partition
(C) If I run the hiden partition restore will THAT do the trick (and if so, show do I run it?)
(D) Where can I download the IBM stuff that originally came on this machine (most of it is already on here, but I used to know where to ge to get the missing pieces and I've forgotten)
All help and advice appreciated.

First, Remove all the partitions from your new 80 gig drive. Then put the original 40 gig drive back in the T42. Go to Start, All Programs, Thinkvantage, Create recovery discs. You should be able to create a recovery set from here. It will take 7 cd's or 1 cd and 1 DVD.
If you are not able to make a set because a set has already been made, Reboot and press F11 at the IBM screen. This will take you into Rescue and Recovery where you can "Restore to Factory Contents". After this process has finished you will be able to make a recovery set.
Install your new drive and use the recovery set to install the recovery partition and restore to factory contents.

OK. There is no "Create Recovery Disks" in START/ALL PROGRAMS/THINKVANTAGE.carbon_unit wrote:First, Remove all the partitions from your new 80 gig drive. I assume that means the recovery disks have already been made by previous owner. So I will try the Rescue & Recovery route when I get a chance.
Thanks.
