Amount of RAM for a T42?

Hey everybody,

First off, I want to say this is a great resource for thinkpad owners. I have found a lot of helpful information here. Are there any other sites/forums like this one? Props to the owner(s)/operator(s) of this board.

Anyhow, I'm in the market for some RAM for my T42. I have the basic 256 but am looking to upgrade, and so I have a few questions.

1) What do you guys think is a good amount of RAM to have? I use it for web browsing, some P2P, some web design, and word processing. Maybe for gaming in the future if I can find some time =)

2) How much did you purchase your RAM for and where?

3) Thanks in advance! (not really a question but...)

I think you can drop a stick of 512MB on your system and it should be good enough for you. You can pick up the RAM from www.crucial.com. The stick of 512MB should cost you around $100 plus tax. It is the same type of RAM that IBM using, so you should be fine.

I also found the cheaper RAM from Kingston from some of the posts in here. It will cost you around $80 or $90:

I have 1GB in my T41p, which just about covers my needs. Work on CAD/CAM, so a lot of memory is required.

The T41p was supplied with 512MB of RAM. I Bought the extra 512MB stick from Corsair.

For your needs, I think a stick of 512 will be fine.

I just ordered some ram from this place: OEMPCWorld.com
About 89 for 512mb.
