error 2010 after a power outage

#1 Post by yawnmoth » Mon May 14, 2007 6:57 am

I have a ThinkPad R52 (1847-AGU) that has started, since a recent power outage, presumably caused by a storm, giving me the following error:

Code: Select all

ERROR
2010: The Hard Disk drive you have installed has not been qualified for use
in this computer or does not have the latest firmware. Using a drive that
is not qualified may cause compatibility issues and potential data loss.

To automatically continue after this message is displayed without
having to press <esc>, restart the computer, press <F1> during Power-on and
look under "Startup" in the BIOS Setup Utility.

Error
0200: Failure Fixed Disk 0

Press <F1> to Setup
The hard drive is the same one that the computer came with. My question is... is this a problem with the hard drive? The "logic board"? Is this something I can fix or is it something I'm going to have to call Lenovo about? Would I, by trying to read the hard drive in another computer, only make the problem worse? (I once had a hard drive that had had a head crash and was told that the more I tried to read it, the more the heads scratched the platters...)
