HD advice on T43

#1 Post by alfio » Mon May 14, 2007 2:23 pm

i've read through the myriad of threads on the subject but never found a direct (and uncontradicted) answer to my situation:

- i'm using a 2nd HDD adapter (62P4554), what's the largest 7200RPM drive i can run with it in my T43?

ideally i'd be able to pick up a 100gb or 120gb HD that i would eventually switch over to primary HD duty in the T43, would i be able to (at some point in the future) also use that HD in the computer itself?

TIA

I don't think there is any restriction for the HDD size for ultrabay use. I guess the largest capacity 7200 RPM drive available now is the Hitachi 7k100 (and one from Seagate too, if I am not wrong). However, because of the 2010 error that the T43 is (in)famous for, you might need to do a firmware update if you want to use a non-IBM HDD, if you want to use this HDD as your primary HDD.

For use in the ultrabay, I don't think you need a firmware update. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

thanks gator!

so this one will be fine both in the 2nd HDD and, in the future, assuming the firmware issue gets resolved, it will work fine as the main HD?

It should work fine - I just searched the forum and you might want to look into these threads:

bringing this back to the top

i need another HD for my T43: i would like 100GB+ and 7200rpm but where have all the ata-6 drives gone? it seems like everyone is carrying large hds (160 gb, 320 gb, etc) but all in 5400rpm models - any ideas? thanks as always

If you really need the space, get a SATA Ultrabay adapter. Up to 500GB SATA drives are available, and possibly larger.
Newer ATA hard drives all run at 5400rpm and are (almost) as quick as the older 7200rpm HDs.
A good ATA HD would be the WD Scorpio Blue 320GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136345

This disk will produce the 2010 error.

7200rpm drives are still available on eBay (at a hefty price) and most are used.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
