beep codes on t22

#1 Post by dogooder » Mon May 14, 2007 11:36 pm

When my laptop boots up, just after the IBM screen I get one long and two short beeps. Which could be a system board problem or video problem, according to IBM beep codes. The t22 boots to windows (XP pro) with no problem, and works perfectly after that.
I searched for this problem and cannot find any answers. I ran PC doctor for video problems and none are found.

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

The 1 long, 2 short code also lists "DIMM" (memory) as a possible problem. Since you already have PC Doctor, I would also run the following tests:

CPU/Coprocessor
Systemboard
Memory Test - Full

Also, double check that what the BIOS reports as the total memory size is what you see from the module(s) that are installed.

Thanks for the welcome rkawakami.
I have visited these forums many times and always found answers for various problems.
Well I've got it fixed. After changing to known good dimms, laptop boots and no beeps. Thinking all is well, I reboot again, error beeps again.
So i am looking at the bios setup screen and notice the "MAC address" is not applicable.
Hmmm, so i open cover and see an Intel 10/100 mini. Just on a hunch I install an old 3com mini i had laying around, reboot and no beeps.
In bios setup I now have "MAC address #". I now have installed new OS and all updates and have rebooted dozens of times. I have run all tests many times and no errors. So maybe it's coincidence, or the mini card was bad.
