Problems with single random temporarily bright pixels

#1 Post by teepee » Tue May 15, 2007 2:27 am

Hi

I've just bought a Viewsonic VP930 external monitor to use with my T42. All was well for just over 1 week, but then I started seeing 1 pixel at a time stick on white (or on one occasion, what seemed to be pink - always bright though) mid-way through a computing session, with the pixel always being in the central area and (as far as I can tell) being a different pixel every time. Re-starting my T42 has always cleared the problem so far.

I phoned Viewsonic tech support and they said it is a very unusual problem and the only thing they can think of is that my graphics card is faulty.

So, I've just done a search here and found 1 post that discusses the problem (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=19673). I haven't yet seen another jammed pixel to try the double arrow thing or the solution offered there. But, can anyone advise what a permanent fix might be please? Is this likely to be a hardware issue that I need to run a warranty report on? I need to run another warranty report in the near future and may as well get everything done at the same time.

The odd thing is that I don't seem to get the same problem on my T42 display (not in use right now, while using the VP930). I connected the T42 to the VP930 using a VGA cable as I haven't yet got a Mini-Dock.

I appreciate any advice :D

Where you don't have a problem on your thinkpad's LCD, I'd assume tht your computer is fine. Try hooking it up to a different PC (or your PC to a different monitor) to see if you have the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion and sorry for not replying sooner. As I don't have another external monitor I just went the route of disabling all extra features in the touchpad. Solved the problem :D . And as I didn't use the extra features anyway, all is fine.
