Replacing the DVD-RW Drive ?

#1 Post by arion » Tue May 15, 2007 4:13 am

Are there still different connector types for the ultra bay DVD-RW drives ?

A mate of mine brought a UJ-850 from ebay to replace a UJ-811 in his R51 and it came with a different connector.

Where is the place to get the DVD writters from ? The branded retail parts are so expensive.

Thanks

For what particular machine will you be using your DVD writer?

I think you can find the information you are looking for here.

As for place to but, why not try the Marketplace?

Yeah been there. I forgot about the market place.

It seems that there are a lot of different connectors for different manufacturers still.

Do you have the original drive that came with the laptop? If so look at the back of it, there should be a small plate held on by 3-4 screws take it off and put it on the other drive.

My Ultrabay Enhanced drives don't come with a plate on the back. My older Ultrabay 2000 drive, however, comes with a plate on the back, but the plate doesn't fit on the Enhanced drives. The Ultrabay 2000 adapter for Ultrabay Enhanced drives is a different type of plate.

Disregard my earlier post, I just took my drive out and what I thought was an adapter plate was just a spacer. sorry.
