T42 Recovery CDs

#1 Post by ranjit » Wed May 16, 2007 6:22 am

Hi All,

When I purchased my ThinkPad T42 laptop in January 2005, I made a set of recovery CDs. It consisted of 7 CDs:

1. IBM (R) Rescue & Recovery (TM) w/Rapid Restore (TM);
2. IBM (R) Product Recovery - Disk 1 to 6

My question is:

Folks on this forum are talking about one (1) bootable ‘Rescue and Recovery w/ Rapid Restore’ disc plus seven (7) ‘Product Recovery’ discs). This make a total of 8 CDs

Am I missing one (1) CD or is the seven (7) CDs that I have the correct number of disks? Did the T42s made in 2004/2005 (possibly with Windows XP Professional SP1) come only with seven (7) in total? Please help.

Cheers and best regards,
Ranjit

My T42s (2373-K5H) made total 7 CD's, just like you.

I've used these many times to format my HDD, and OK.

Hope this helps...

The factory set had 8 discs (24R7684).

The reason why you have only 7 probably boils down to what size CDs did you use. In the factory, IBM used 650MB CDs, thus required 8 discs in total.

If you used 700MB or up discs, then 7 will be enough to burn all of the recovery OS contents.

Also, if you had no errors while performing the recovery then you have nothing to worry about.

And another FYI, the 8 CD set came with SP2.

The ones you make are only for the type of T42 (ie 2373-xxx) you have and it is a 7 cd set.
The ones IBM supplies fits many different models of T42 (2373, 2378,2379) or R51 (1829, 1830, 1831, 1836, 1840, 1841) and is a 8 cd set.
