IMO I wouldn't take a risk with an 'opened' brand new thinkpad....why not just buy it from a legit store/website?

Is it not cheaper compared to the other T42s?

lets see..
you are going to trust a new ebay seller with a "new" thinkpad at a terrific price but its really not new since the carton has been opened..??

and you expect to get what you think you are paying for..??

uhmm, i have some really nice new, open box lottery tickets..
never been used.. as new.. low mileage..
only $1 each or 10 cents a dozen.. :D

Yeah - let someone else take the risk getting this guy some positive feedback. In any event, the price will likely be "sniped" up to around $2000 within 5 min of the end of the auction :?

I've bought a lot of stuff from Ebay with pretty good experience. But yikes, this guy has NO feedback. I'm not sure I'd buy a CD from anyone without any feedback.

One area I have avoided is high tech. I've always preferred to deal with directly or with a qualified retailer. I just want to be able to call the person I bought the piece of technology from should I have a problem. IBM and Dell are great examples of this. (HP isn't!)

The deal on the computer is not all that hot. I bought my 2378FZU for around $1600 through the EPP plan directly from IBM. I know it is not apples for apples, (I have a 40 gig hard drive and a 15" screen)

I'd tread softly and look at your options from someone you know.

Good Luck!

i buy a lot of stuff "off" ebay..
but rarely a thinkpad from someone i do not know and never much of anything from someone with no feedback..

i have sold on ebay (thinkpads and other stuff) in the past but not som much recently due to too many bad occurences..
non paying bidder, stolen ebay account and the like..

what i HAVE bought on ebay is a set of wheels and tires for my car..
i needed the tires and got a nice set of factory alloy wheels..
all for the price of the tires..

so i must say that there are many honest sellers and buyers but this particular thinkpad sale is very risky..
that said, you should try for personal communication.. tel# or the like.. and then judge...

NEVER EVER BID FOR A TP FROM EBAY UNLESS YOU DON'T ABOUT THE PERSON. OR

PURCHASE IT AFTER SEEING TP, AND PAYING FOR IT (EBAY ORDERS) IS OK.

Sorry that I have a very bad experience. Thats why..

My son just emailed me this link:

https://www-132.ibm.com/content/home/st ... etter.html

He asked if this one was a good buy and I told him it probably was, but the only drawback (IMHO) was the low-end graphics and small (30 Gig) HDD. This is available to him thru his company's IBM Friends & Family Program. Anyone want to offer an opinion? Also, for those of you familiar with the program, is there a way to upgrade your order or do they just limit it to one or two specific models?

TIA!

The EPP is usually limited to a few specific models, but they change frequently.
