Fan became louder as if it is 'pinched' inside the case

#1 Post by rja » Thu May 17, 2007 12:36 am

It sounds like the fan on my X60s is getting squished. It used to be very quiet and now sounds like it is loudly rubbing against something inside the case. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

You have to exchange the fan-assembly, cause the bearing of your fan seems defective. I had this noise on my X60T too and exchanged the fan-assembly by myself. The sparepart was 17€ without shipping, so it was not such an investment.

You can find the part-number of the fan in the service maual, wich can be downloaded from the lenovo website. The partnumber of the fan assembly for my X60T is 41V9748.

But if you don't want to risk your warranty, it would be better to send it to lenovo.

Wouldn't that void the warranty? Also, shouldn't the laptop in question still be under warranty?

Where did you buy that spare fan from? IBM/Lenovo? Or some third party fan??

Your warranty will be voided if you use a third party fan to replace the original IBM/Lenovo fan.

BUT...

All warranty stuffs depend on your location. It might work in some country and it might not work in another country...
